Optimising your PC:

Before getting in to tuning, tweaking and cleaning your computer there is one golden rule you need to follow, ignore this and you will spend a good deal of your time and money trying to salvage whats left of your virus riddled computer.

Ensure your computer has an up to date anti virus program running and that it is set to recieve regular updates.

Use a firewall.

If you have the cash to spare I would recomend using one of the better know anti virus packages from Mc Affee or the Norton package from Symantec.

No funds available for software? All is not lost, AVG offers a fully functioning anti virus complete with updates. I have been using this for a year now and it works well.

Caution! make sure you do not try to instal an anti virus programe if you already have one running on your system! This causes software conficts. If you have an old or outdated antivirus installed and no longer want to use it uninstal it before installing your new program!

Microsoft XP users will find they allready have a firewall available, all that remains is to click Start -  control  panel  and select Firewall. Make sure it is switched ON.

No firewall installed?

You can try out  the Prisma Firewall, using a trail download.

In a hurry and need it as in yesterday? Try our downloads section, there is a good selection to choose from there.

If you have been running your computer for a year or so you may be starting to wonder if you were just imagining that it booted up and ran a lot faster than it is now.

Chances are though, that it is suffering from some serious user neglect and is choking on old files and invalid registry files, throw in a few spyware programs and your computing experience is reduced to one long wait after another as your computer splutters away.

I have added this section to the Webworxpro site in the hope that visitors and users may find something of use to enhance the online experience.

Having computer problems? It may be spyware, one of today's most widespread threats to computer security.

Are you experiencing any of the following symtoms?

The computer slows down.

Pop-up windows or random web pages open.

Your homepage changes to an unfamiliar page and you can't change it back.

Some sleazy web page takes over your browser.

Explorer stops working.

New icons appear on your desktop.

Computer takes much longer to start up than it used to.

Computer crashes or locks up.

Generally strange or new behavior.

If your computer has any of the above symtoms, it's very likely that you have spyware. Once spyware gets on your computer, it can get worse , eventually making your computer almost unusable.

If you find your computer seems to be running a lot slower than it used to or you have time to make lunch while waiting for it to start up you may find the following tools usefull.

Problems with the Windows Registry are a common cause of Windows crashes and error messages.

The problem could be all of those incorrect registry entries caused by software installations and un-installations that went awry! Un-installations can leave behind file references in the registry to files that don't exist. You can end up with hundreds of files to slow down your computer

By using PC tune-up utilities such as registry cleaners regularly, your system should be more stable, your software quicker and your operating system will boot faster.
